Hello everyone. I’m taking a very short hiatus from writing substantively for the newsletter while I get to grips with life admin I’ve been procrastinating on since leaving the University of Chichester. Normal service will resume next week. In the interim, I just wanted to let you all know about the planned structure of the newsletter going forward.
Free subscription:
All free subscribers will receive posts from the following series:
Cold War World (monthly): A series of posts exploring the Cold War’s political, social, cultural, economic, and environmental aspects, with an emphasis on its global nature.
Isms and Schisms (monthly): A series of posts discussing how ideology manifests across politics and culture, often through a comparative lens.
The Long Nineties (monthly): A series of posts reflecting on the culture and politics of the period roughly between the end of the Cold War and the start of the Great Recession, and its ongoing legacies.
Present Pasts (monthly): A series of posts examining modern and contemporary representations of history (as well as of the future, and of time and memory more generally), and what underpins them.
Stop, Look, and Listen (weekly): A digest of articles and podcasts (and occasionally programmes and films) that I’ve found engaging and insightful over the past week. I also maintain a regular record of all these in the ‘Notes’ section of my website.
Paid subscription:
In addition to these, paid subscribers will receive regular posts in limited miniseries based on my ongoing academic research. Examples of these include:
Arctic and Nordic Identities.
Religion and The Railway Series.
Judges on Americans screens.
The Suburbanisation of London.
I’m currently offering 50% off for new paid subscriptions for the first 12 months. That means, if you take out a paid subscription, you will only have to pay £2.50 a month for it (or whatever the equivalent to that is in your own currency if you’re outside the UK) for the first year of subscription.
If you can afford to take out a subscription at this price, please do consider doing so. As well as receiving additional content you’ll also enable me to keep this newsletter going, and ensure most of my work is freely available to those for whom taking out a paid subscription isn’t financially viable. If you don’t feel you can commit to a paid subscription at this time, you can still choose to show your appreciation on a more one-off basis by buying me a coffee.
Here’s some I made earlier…
The newsletter has been going for two-and-a-half months now, and I thought I’d just remind you all of what I’ve already written for it (especially if you’re a fairly recent subscriber, and may have missed some of my earlier posts). They have been ret-conned into the new series, like I was some sort of comic book franchise. Some of these, which were previously paid subscriber-only, are now freely available as part of those series.

The Academic Bubble is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Paid subscribers receive exclusive posts from regular miniseries, and also help to keep this newsletter going. Paid subscriptions are currently available at a discounted rate of £2.50 a month for the first 12 months. If you’ve enjoyed this post, you can also show your appreciation by sharing it more widely and, if you’d like, by buying me a coffee.
Oh I'd missed this post, and really like your categories of past posts!
