Hi everyone,
I recently reached 150 subscribers in total to this newsletter. It has been really heartening to see interest continue to grow since its launch four months ago. I love being able to reach a broader audience, and produce shorter form, more frequent and hopefully more accessible content than conventional academic publishing allows.
I typically turn out three posts a week: the ‘Stop, Look, and Listen’ weekly round-up of articles and podcasts worth listening to; the weekly ‘One Take’ film review; and posts in my regularly monthly series on ‘The Long Nineties’, ‘Isms and Schisms’, ‘Present Pasts’, and ‘Cold War World’. Roughly half of all this output is freely available to all to read, and the other half behind a paywall.
To put it straightforwardly, for me to continue to produce this newsletter, which takes up most of my working time, I need the number of paid subscribers to increase, so that this can become a viable source of income in the longer run. Having had to leave my job in academia earlier this year, due to my role being made redundant because of budget cuts, I need to make an alternative living through freelance researching and writing.
So, if you enjoy and want to support my work, if you would like to read the paywalled as well as free content, and can afford to do so, please do take out a paid subscription to the newsletter. These will remain available at a 50% discounted rate of £2.50 per month for the first year for anyone who takes out a paid subscription before the end of 2023:
Equally, if you think there is someone else who would enjoy my work, consider giving them a gift subscription at this reduced rate as a Christmas present:
If you cannot afford to take out or gift a subscription at the present moment, please do, if you enjoy the work I produce, share it with people you know, directly and through social media:
Thank you all, once again, for your support. X
